2012 Hillcrest High School Shakespeare Competition Team

TO THOSE WHOSE NAMES ARE NOT ON THE LIST:

Thank you so much for being willing to share your passion with the school’s Shakespeare Team yesterday.

So many of you deserve to be on this team. A lot more than I was able to actually cast.

If you didn’t make the team this time, please don’t be sad for too long. I look forward to working with you this year and in the future. You all will do great things.

It’s not your time right now to be on this specific team, but as long as you keep your passion alive, the world will feel it soon enough.

Make sure you learn everything you can from your audition experience and let yourself grow from what you learned.

I hope to see you on Tuesday at the “Will Rogers Follies” auditions.

I appreciate you more than you know.

---Mr. Long

PS---9th Graders, it looks like Hillcrest theatre has an awesome future in your hands.  I look forward to working more with you next year! Thank you so much for coming out and auditioning!

First week of school

Hey everyone!! This is Gregory, your 2012-2013 Theatre President. I hope everyone has had an amazing summer and that we are ready to start the year off strong! This year we have an incredibly exciting season and I have a feeling that we are going to reach out to people with important messages through our shows. We have the incredible opportunity to change lives, and I can’t wait for the shows to reach and affect people. We have many opportunities to audition to be a part of these productions. Be on your toes - - within the first two weeks of school we have auditions for two of the most impactful opportunities our school has to offer.

First off is Shakespeare Team, with auditions the FIRST THURSDAY OF SCHOOL - August 30th. Do not pass up this opportunity! It comes so fast, so start preparing now for your auditions. Shakespeare Team is one of the most influential experiences and it is a great opportunity to meet new people and become better. It is honestly one of the most fun things you can do during the year. We get to travel with the team down to Cedar City and compete against other schools around professional actors and actresses. The auditions are open to anyone at the school who wants to try out AND any 9th graders attending Union, Albion, or Midvale middle schools. If you know anyone who would be interested spread the word! No experience is required, and each morning before school and right after school Aug. 27-30 there will be members of the theatre presidency available to help out with auditions. If you need help picking a monologue or have any questions feel free to ask any of us and we will help you out!

The big fall musical this year is The Will Rogers Follies. It seems like not many people have heard about this one, but it is going to be fun fun fun! Auditions for the musical are Tuesday, September 4th. Like Shakespeare Team, these auditions are open to anyone in the school. All you need for the audition is a song. If you would like to be considered for a lead role, come with 16 bars of a song from a Broadway musical prepared. Feel free to ask any member of the theatre presidency or productions company if you need help finding an audition piece. Again, do not pass up the opportunity while it’s here because you get the chance to meet a lot of new friends and be a part of something special.

On Friday, August 31st there is an opening social at the park across the street from Hillcrest at 3:00pm for anyone interested in the theatre department. There will be food, games, and we will give out the new theatre bracelets for next year! It’s a great opportunity to meet a bunch of the people involved with the theatre department.

For more information on the Shakespeare Team or the musical, scroll down and see what our directors have said to us and find a Shakespeare monologue.

I can’t wait for us to make this year the best it can be!

See you soon!
