Announcement
We were informed over the weekend that we will not be allowed to make the adjustments to "Legally Blonde" that we wanted to make in order for the production to work for high school kids and for our community. So, we had to choose a different musical.
And we are very excited to announce our new choice:
"The Wiz" is a musical retelling of "The Wizard of OZ" that was written in the 1970s to reflect a more urban culture. It uses soul and R&B music to tell the story of Dorothy's journey to Oz. It's like a 'hip' version of the classic story.
We're very excited about this and hope you are as well.
Please don't feel like you need to change your audition piece. We would rather see what you have been working hard on, than a new piece you whip together in 24 hours.
See you at auditions tomorrow!
Oh, and, as always, we reserve the right to change the show if we do not find the appropriate talent we need for this production.

TO THOSE WHOSE NAMES ARE NOT ON THE LIST:
So many of you
deserve to be on this team…a lot more than we were able to actually cast. However, because of busing and hotel space,
we were only able to cast 45 students this year. That is less than half of the total number of
kids who auditioned. That means that
there are more kids who did not make the team than there are who did.
Scores from all
4 of us were taken into account. If you
didn’t make the team this time, please know that we look forward to working
with you this year and in the future.
You all will do great things.
Make sure you
learn everything you can from your audition experience and let yourself grow
from what you learned.
We hope to see
you on Tuesday at the “Legally Blonde” auditions!

The 2013 Hillcrest High School Performing Arts Musical
OK, we are ready to make the announcement!
The 2013 Hillcrest High School Performing Arts musical will be...
A story of discovering your inherent value and how that is not connected to the societal norms and stereotypes inflicted upon us.
Also, it's a lot of fun.

It's Almost Here - First Weeks of School
Hello, beautiful friends! This is Erin Kaseda, your 2013 - 2014 Theatre President. A full array of all things theatre is heading your way, so get excited! This year is full of thrilling new opportunities and challenges. Make sure that you are keeping updated regularly on the department by following this blog and becoming a member of the Hillcrest Theatre Facebook page.
1) Under "Important Websites" on the right hand sidebar is a new link to the official Hillcrest Theatre Calendar (also linked here). This will be updated frequently and kept as accurate and precise as possible throughout the year. Dates for auditions, shows, rehearsals, and competitions throughout the year have already been added, so take a look! Also, share the calendar with your parents.
2) Wednesday, August 14th, 2013 - 11:00 AM - Tech Orientation.
This is open to all students enrolled in either Intro to Stage Crew or Stage Crew. You will have the opportunity to get to know Mr. Brewster, the new theatre teacher who will be teaching both those classes and running tech for all the shows, and Helen Tsan, the Stage Crew President, as well as get a head start on everything Mr. Brewster wants y'all to know.
3) Monday, August 19th - Wednesday, August 21st, 2013 - 7:00 AM - Breakfast with Billy.
From 7:00 to 7:50 on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the first week of school, presidency members will be available in the theatre room for help preparing your Shakespeare Team audition (because you all are going to audition, right?). The Shakespeare Team is open to ANYONE and EVERYONE, regardless of your experience. People who have never even acted before are often incredible assets to Hillcrest Theatre, so take a chance. I will also have a binder full of monologues if you don't know where to start, so there's no reason for you not to come and try your hand at acting the world's greatest theatre. Additionally, muffins will be served, so please come and spread the word.
4) Tuesday, August 20th, 2013 - 2:30 PM - Beginner's Audition Workshop.
This is geared specifically towards any students new to theatre but is open to anyone wanting to further their audition skills for both Shakespeare and the musical. Members of the theatre presidency will answer any questions you have, from the logistical process of auditioning to acting tips to relaxation exercises, and work one-on-one with your audition. Shakespeare monologues will be available if you do not already have one.
5) Wednesday, August 21st, 2013 - After School - Shakespeare Team Auditions.
Come help us defend our 3-time Sweepstakes Championship and 6-time Ensemble Championship! It is life changing to work with Shakespeare's genius on the Shakespeare Team. Auditions are open to ALL students attending Hillcrest High School. Audition sheets will be on the door of the theatre room to sign up for your specific time slot starting the first day of school. It is preferable, but not required, that the monologue be memorized, and monologues will be available this day for any last-minute auditions.
6) Monday, August 26th, 2013 - 2:30 - Theatre Opening Social.
This is the first theatre party of the year, and is always incredibly fun and the best way to start meeting everyone in the department! It will be held at the park across from Hillcrest. There will be a water-themed relay race, Capture the Flag, card games, and food. Anyone is more than welcome to attend.
7) Tuesday, August 27th - Wednesday, August 28th, 2013 - Musical Auditions.
Hillcrest's fall musical is the biggest show in the state and one of the most memorable experiences a person could have. All you need to audition is a song. To be considered for a lead role, come prepared with 16 bars from a Broadway musical. Members of presidency or Productions Company would be more than happy to help you find an audition piece. This show reaches a larger audience than any of Hillcrest's productions, and thus being in the cast of the musical will give you the chance to be a part of something lasting and impacting.
Shakespeare and musical auditions are coming up fast, so don't miss out on your opportunity! I hope that you all are as excited as I am. Don't forget to keep up on Hillcrest Theatre via this blog or the Facebook page, as there will be many opportunities throughout the year to get involved.
Enjoy your last two weeks of summer, and see you all very soon!
