“I was a real sparrow and I wanted to
be a fake eagle.”
Hillcrest High School is proud to present Golden Boy,
a compelling story about real choices. The play was written in 1937 by Clifford
Odets, one of the pioneers of the American realism movement. Come experience the story as it follows the
life of Joe Bonaparte, whose dream of becoming a violinist
could become a reality when prizefight promoter
Roxy Gottlieb offers to sponsor him as a boxer. He finds himself torn between
the lure of big money and the distinct possibility of injuring his hands,
thereby destroying his musical career. Golden Boy was revived on
Broadway in 2012 when it was nominated for eight Tony Awards and three Drama
Desk Awards.
Golden Boy will perform on the nights of
March 20, 21, and 22. The doors to the auditorium will open at 6:30 and the
show will begin at 7:00.
All
tickets are general admission and will be available at the door on all performance
nights. Follow us on Instagram at @goldenboyhhs2014
